Local basketballers Millie Gerreyn and Jake Criddle earn WA Country call-up for U18 national champs

Two Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association stars have earned State selection for the upcoming U18 National Championships in April. Millie Gerreyn and Jake Criddle have earnt call-ups to the WA Country men and women’s U18 squads after strong domestic seasons. The championships, which are being held in Brisbane, will bring together country and metro teams from around the State in a battle to see who is the best in Australia. Gerreyn and Criddle were both included in extended squads last year but did not make the final cut but this time around they will be in the black and gold come April. Gerreyn has enjoyed another strong season at the local level splitting her time across both the Pumas U18 and division one squads where she has averaged more than 12 points per game across both levels and sits third on the overall points scoring charts for the top division. She also is one of the best shooters in the league with 19 three-pointers putting her third on the charts and performed strongly in the WA Country Championships where she finished with 59 points from six games. Criddle has had an equally busy summer playing across both U18 and men’s divisions one and two. Averaging more than 12 points per game, Criddle helped put Trades into the division two grand final and keep their U18 side clear at the top of the ladder. WA ended their 22-year national title drought last year when Tomas Dobson helped the U20 side take home the gold and Gerreyn and Criddle will be hoping to replicate their success.
