Police allege a 35-year-old man broke into the City of Greater Geraldton pound to steal back his dog after it was seized by rangers.

It is alleged the man entered the secure yard with an accomplice early on Saturday morning.

While inside, the pair allegedly cut a hole in a cage which housed the dog, before making off with the canine.

Police said the dog was declared dangerous and seized from a property on Pass Street, Wonthella, last Thursday, after several incidents where it allegedly attacked people.

After identifying the registered owner of the dog as a person of interest, police charged a 35-year-old Wonthella man with trespassing and stealing.

He will face Geraldton Magistrate’s Court.
