A man has been arrested after an alleged car chase that started near Geraldton early today.

Geraldton police tried to pull the driver over on Brand Highway but he allegedly sped away, police abandoning the pursuit about 3am at the S-Bend, South Greenough, for safety reasons.

About 6am, police issued an alert saying they were on the lookout for a white 1998 Toyota Celica involved in “a number of incidents”, warning members of the public not to approach the driver.

“The vehicle is believed to be damaged, and is being driven in a dangerous and reckless manner,” it said.

The vehicle was later located by police about 11am near Goomalling and a man was taken into custody.

A police spokeswoman this afternoon said the man was helping police with inquiries.
