A man has been charged after he allegedly tried to speed away from police and crashed his car in Geraldton on Saturday.

Police allege he accelerated heavily away from police while travelling south on Durlacher Street, about 9.50pm.

He then allegedly failed to negotiate a 90-degree bend, mounted the kerb and crashed into a barrier on the opposite side of the road, before continuing for about 150 metres.

Police allege the man had three passengers in the car at the time.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with aggravated fail to stop and reckless driving (to evade police).

He will appear in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on July 6.
