Geraldton police have charged a man who allegedly kicked his way through the rear fence of a Rangeway home before threatening the occupant with a shovel.

The victim was renovating the yard of his Abraham Street home when the incident happened about 6.15pm on Wednesday.

Police said the attacker kicked down a fence panel and entered the yard before picking up a shovel and challenging the man to a fight.

He allegedly fled when the occupant retreated to his house.

A 25-year-old Rangeway man was later charged with being armed in a way to cause fear, damage, stealing and trespassing.

He will face Geraldton Magistrate’s Court at a later date.
