Martians look to reclaim top spot against Rams while Marlins and Suiside tackle doubleheaders in Pink Round

Round 13 of the Geraldton softball season is marked by the Martians Pink Round, with the teams encouraging everyone to wear a pink item along with their uniforms and helping with donations. All money raised will go towards the McGrath Foundation for breast cancer research. Martians men take on an in-form Rams side coming off an impressive victory over Suiside, capped off by Dean Pascoe’s grand slam. The Rams coach is pleased with his side’s participation and recent run of form. “We should have a similar team this weekend I back our defence in, so we just need to string a few hits together then I think we can come away with the win,” he said. Martians will be hoping to return to the top of the table after their disappointing game against Suiside last round. Martians women have a bye this round, leaving both Marlins and Suiside playing their doubleheaders against each other with Marlins also taking on Pi’s and Suiside going against Rams in their other doubleheader matches. Pi’s will be hoping to return to early and get some regular players back after relying on B grade members to step up last week. Manager David Sutton is optimistic about the team’s chances going into the latter half of the season. “I was disappointed with our first game, with errors being costly but we came away with a good win against Martians,” he said. “Special mention to Tanya Copley who stepped up and pitched both games for A grade along with pitching B grade prior, huge effort and passion.” Marlins have got a few wins under their belts, with both Zoe and Taryn Purcell being in fine form of late the team will be relying on them and Ava Gould to take them through their final matches. Taryn Purcell felt the team was in a good spot and was excited to continue their good run. “We are feeling great after two straight wins after Christmas and we have a whole team back, which is good to have,” she said. In the second division, Rams White play their derby against Rams Blue, Suiside go up against Martians Red and Batavia Blaze take on Martians Black. Blaze coach Adam Gilchrist was disappointed to lose last round but knows his team is focused on winning this weekend’s game. “We lost against an extremely strong Suiside team but the boys are looking towards this week’s game against Martians Black and hoping to be back in the winner’s circle.” For the women, Martians Red and Batavia Blaze have their doubleheaders against each other before Blaze then take on Martians Black and Martians Red take on Suiside. Pi’s and Suiside also have their own double headers, once more playing each other and Pi’s Rams in the final match-up.
