McDonald’s armed robbery accused Gerard Gilbert Narrier granted home detention bail

A man who allegedly jumped through the McDonald’s drive-through window in an armed robbery attempt has been granted home detention bail after a “mostly positive” report was received. Gerard Gilbert Narrier, 21, was granted home detention bail in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Friday after spending time in custody since July. Mr Narrier is charged with aggravated burglary and commit, attempted armed robbery, three counts of stealing, criminal damage, aggravated home burglary, trespass and possessing cannabis. He is yet to enter pleas. The court was previously told on July 15, Mr Narrier allegedly jumped through the Wonthella McDonald’s drive-through window and entered the kitchen while the restaurant was closed to the public, demanding staff open the till while armed with a large wooden stick. He allegedly stole CCTV wires, Ray-Ban glasses and a wallet, and smashed a car window. He is also accused of entering a Beresford home through an unlocked door. The court previously heard the robber wore a face mask and a green puffer jacket in the CCTV footage, which was the same jacket Mr Narrier was allegedly wearing when he was arrested. Defence lawyer Lauren Roycroft said the only other evidence that tied Mr Narrier to the alleged robbery was forensics from a stick that was found under a car. On Friday, magistrate Kelly Thompson said the home detention bail report was “mostly positive” and Mr Narrier completed his recent parole satisfactorily. Taking into account the “serious charges” and the time spent in custody, Ms Thompson determined home detention was an appropriate option. Mr Narrier is to reside at an address in Utakarra at all times and cannot consume drugs. He is next due to appear on April 8 for a committal mention.
