McDonald's armed robbery accused Gerard Gilbert Narrier to be considered for home detention

A man who allegedly jumped through the McDonald’s drive-through window in an armed robbery attempt has had his bail application partly heard, with the magistrate to make a final decision later this month. Gerard Gilbert Narrier, 22, appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court from custody on Monday where his bail application was adjourned until a later date. Mr Narrier is charged with aggravated burglary and commit, attempted armed robbery, three counts of stealing, criminal damage, aggravated home burglary, trespass and possessing cannabis. He has not entered pleas. The court was told just before 5am on July 15 last year, Mr Narrier allegedly jumped through the Wonthella McDonald’s drive-through window and entered the kitchen while the restaurant was closed to the public, demanding staff open the till while armed with a large wooden stick. He is accused of stealing CCTV wires, Ray-Ban glasses and a wallet, smashing a car window and entering a Beresford home through an unlocked door. He was allegedly found with cannabis when he was arrested. Police prosecutor Sgt Paul Burkinshaw said the robber was wearing a face mask and a green puffer jacket in the CCTV footage, which was the same jacket Mr Narrier was allegedly wearing when he was arrested. Defence lawyer Lauren Roycroft said identification was an issue and the only evidence that tied Mr Narrier to the alleged robbery was forensics from a stick that was found under a car. Magistrate Kelly Thompson agreed there were issues in relation to identification but it wasn’t a weak case. She said she was willing to consider home detention to an address in Karloo but there were “some issues that need to be explored by defence”. The case was adjourned until Tuesday, February 27 when bail will be considered.
