Megan Ingram pays tribute to parents killed in Sandy Gully Valentine’s Day crash as brother Sean faces charges

A woman has spoken of her family’s devastation at losing both parents in a tragic car crash near Geraldton, in which her brother suffered serious injuries and now faces criminal charges. Megan Ingram said her parents had lived in Kalbarri for almost three decades when they died on Valentine’s Day this year. Ian and Mary Ingram, aged 81 and 79, were passengers in a Ford Falcon driven by their 45-year-old son Sean Mcwilliam Ingram, which crashed into a tree an hour’s drive north of Geraldton at Sandy Gully. They were returning home to Kalbarri from medical appointments in Geraldton. The couple died at the scene while their son was transferred to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries. Mr Ingram, who has since been charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, appeared in Kalbarri Magistrate’s Court on July 15 and was not required to enter pleas. His next appearance will be before Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on August 13. “This has been an extremely hard year for the family,” Ms Ingram said. “They (Ian and Mary) were well loved in the community and I would love for people to remember them as people who would help anyone if they could. “Dad loved sport and life (and) Mum loved everyone and was a beautiful sweet person who could find no fault. They will really be missed.” A memorial service for the couple was held on the Kalbarri Foreshore last month, following their funeral in Perth earlier this year. “We made the funeral all about their romance as they passed away instantly together on Valentine’s Day,” Ms Ingram said. “Their caskets were tied together with a ribbon and they were cremated at the same time.” There has been an outpouring of support from Kalbarri for the Ingrams, including Sean, who took to social media earlier this year to express his thanks. “Hi everyone, firstly, thank you to all for your condolences,” he posted online. “Secondly, thank you all for your support. I have two broken ankles one with plate and screws and a fused spine from L5 to C1.” After the incident a GoFundMe page raised more than $5000 to help Mr Ingram. “This page is to help raise some money for an amazing guy who is always the first one to offer help to everybody and right now he is the one in need,” fundraiser Cassie Acosta wrote on the GoFundMe. “Sean is one of my best friends, he’s a great fella. He’s had the surgery, but the rehabilitation will take a long time.”
