Although the main event was taking place at Flemington, hundreds turned out to Geraldton Turf Club on a picturesque Tuesday afternoon for a day of fun and fashion. As many gathered around to watch Gold Trip’s stunning victory at the Melbourne Cup that was just the start of the action as the club hosted plenty of its own on- and off-track action. Fashions on the Field contested arguably its biggest day of the year having both men’s and women’s categories for cup day. Tahlia Young won the women’s category dominated by bright colours and centrepiece fascinators. “It’s good I’ve been doing this for a little so to get the win today on Melbourne Cup day is great,” she said. “Melbourne Cup is always very colourful and pastel and non-solid colours are in at the moment and this dress from Leo Lin is very much in season only coming out just a few weeks ago.” Connor Geel was the winner in the men’s category which, according to him, was the most successful he had at the track on the day. “I didn’t plan on entering it just sort of came up and pretty good to come away with the win,” he said. “I’d like to not say how my luck on the track went.” Chairman of the Geraldton Turf Club Brian O’Dwyer said it was a fantastic day. “It’s a good crowd, good atmosphere and everyone’s been well-behaved and that makes for an excellent race day,” he said. “It’s absolutely been a success, the marquee was a wonderful success, and I thank all the people involved and the general public for putting on such a great day.” Attention will now turn to the upcoming Batavia Sprint on November 27.
