A record number of public votes has resulted in Perth artist Naomi Grant winning the 2021 Mid West Art Prize People’s Choice Award for her piece, Manifestation.

More than 1000 votes were cast by the visiting public, with the lion’s share going to Grant’s work.

“The Mid West Art Prize is the seminal art competition of our region and it is fantastic that this event attracts so many elite artists from all over the State,” City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said.

“The widespread appeal for artists to participate can only increase the level of artistic capacity generated here in the Mid West region. This year’s high number of votes for the People’s Choice Award illustrates just how important the arts are to our community.

“Congratulations to Naomi Grant on the win.”

The $1500 prize awarded to Grant in this category was sponsored by Geraldton MP Lara Dalton.

“I was very pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor the People’s Choice Award,” she said.

“The arts are vital to the health of our community, and I commend the City of Greater Geraldton for its ongoing support of the Mid West Art Prize.”

The Mid West Art Prize is the biennial flagship exhibition of the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery.
