Mid West children experiencing grief a focus for Lionheart Camp for Kids

A camp specialising in offering guidance for children who have lost a parent, caregiver or sibling will hold its first Mid West camp in Geraldton later this year.
The two-day Lionheart Camp for Kids is for youth aged between 5 and 17, as well as their families. They will be invited to explore and better understand their grief.
The camp offers expert guidance for adults, teenagers and children to strengthen family bonds and develop skills in a safe environment.
After Toby Young and Gena Dyer lost their unborn son Ethan in their final trimester, the couple found themselves juggling their own grief as well as that of their children Cloey and Deegan.
“It’s given us a really good toolset I think for dealing with the different things the kids have gone through. They experience grief in a different way to Mum and Dad. Quite often Mum and Dad don’t have all the answers or the ability to deal with it all,” Mr Young said.
Lionheart Founder and CEO Shelly Skinner said the not-for-profit organisation relied heavily on donations and local knowledge to make the camps possible.
The organisation is open to suggestions of local coffee vans, yoga instructors and doctors that are able to explain medical information in child-friendly ways.
The camp will be held on October 28 and 29: register at form.jotform.com/231240874007853.
