Mid West Multicultural Association’s Festival of Lights to bring endless activities for kids in cultural feast

The Festival of Lights is set to brighten up the Geraldton foreshore at the weekend with live music and activities all afternoon. Saturday’s family friendly event at Stow Gardens will celebrate diversity and combine an array of local music, food and activities for the kids. Mid West Multicultural Association’s engagement officer Linda Liem said the annual event highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of the Mid West and united the community from many walks of life through light. “Originally inspired by the Indian festival of Diwali, the Festival of Lights has evolved to embrace all cultures, fostering connections and bringing together the wonderful communities of Geraldton,” she said. Traditional dances will take place on stage involving Indonesian, Indian and Chinese community groups, as well as Australian belly dancers and bootscooters. Batavia Rockers, Geraldton Mabuhay and Karloo Rockers are some of the bands set to perform live music during the evening. Children can roam free and participate in wheelchair basketball, archery, mini golf, craft experiments and a silent disco, to name a few. Food vendors will be set up around the park, offering a variety of cuisines, while local stallholders will have their products for sale. Join the celebrations from 4-8.30pm.
