Mid West Ports Authority announces key appointments of chief operating officer, trade and commercial manager

Mid West Ports Authority has announced the appointment of two key roles to its executive and leadership teams. Courtney Ackland has been appointed chief operating officer, a newly formed role at MWPA that combines two previous general manager roles, with the aim of improving synergy across the port’s operations. Meanwhile, Tony Corbett has been named trade and commercial manager. Geraldton local Mr Ackland has worked at Iluka Resources Limited for the past eight years, six as its operations and registered manager. He has a strong working knowledge of the shipping and logistics industries with accountability for Iluka’s Mid West shipping, road haulage, and product storage requirements. MWPA CEO Damian Tully welcomed Mr Ackland to the team, stating he would bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in the minerals and bulk handling industry. “Courtney possesses strong senior leadership and management skills, has significant strategic planning and asset management experience, in addition to excellent interpersonal skills. He will be a valuable addition to our executive team,” he said. Mr Ackland will start his role in 2023. With about 30 years experience in the ports and logistics sectors, Mr Corbett has significant experience in developing the diversification of product mix for a port operation, a key strategic objective for MWPA. “He will provide excellent leadership to the trade and commercial team at a critical time in MWPA’s operations and we look forward to him joining us here at the port,” Mr Tully said. Mr Corbett will start in the role on December 1.
