In an incredible display of generosity a Mid West Relay for Life team has raised $8000 over the weekend through their high tea event. One hundred paying guests attended the high tea at the picturesque Emu Creek Gardens in East Chapman, with proceeds going to support country people on the difficult journey of cancer. Captain of the Dare to Dream Relay for Life team, Dianne Grima, said “some of my girls have lost family to cancer. We’ve all been hit in some way.” “We’re trying to get Relay for Life more aware in the public and we’ve all been touched in some way or another with cancer. We all work at the health department, so we well and truly know it inside out. ” “There is a little bit more to come in, and there’s a little bit to go out. So we are pretty stoked with what we’ve raised,” she said. Grima said they were extremely grateful for the support, generosity and donations of local businesses “Yeah, we’ve even had some raffles donated from the eastern states such as Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, from Perth and locally.” Geraldton jeweller, Gemma Baker designed, made and donated a Abrolhos Pearl for the high tea event which was raffled off, raising $2100 in ticket sales. “We only had 62 guests last year, so yes we were definitely higher than last year and that was (Abrolhos Pearl) a really good drawing card,” Grima said.
