Tiani Teakle has wasted no time making a big impression in the footballing world, with the Mid West teenager appointed captain of East Fremantle’s WAFLW side for 2026.

The 19-year-old is another product of Northampton’s extremely effective footballing system.

She is the younger sister of Port Adelaide AFLW player Julia Teakle, and the cousin of former Port Adelaide and North Melbourne AFL player Brynn Teakle.

East Fremantle Football Club made the announcement about its new skipper on social media on Wednesday.

“A respected and valued member of the Sharks, Teakle has consistently demonstrated strong leadership both on and off the field, embodying the club’s core values,” the club posted.

“Her appointment is a reflection of her positive influence across the playing group and unwavering commitment to the club’s success.”

Geraldton MLA Kirrilee Warr congratulated Teakle on her “fantastic achievement”, saying Geraldton and Northampton could not be prouder.

“A true leader on and off the field, Tiani continues to inspire with her dedication, resilience, and commitment to her teammates and community,” Ms Warr said.

Teakle has played 37 WAFLW games for East Fremantle, averaging just over eight disposals a game.

Late last year, Teakle was one of seven WA players invited to attend the State testing ahead of the AFLW draft, but was not selected.

After a breakout 2024 season, her older sister Julia did not play any AFLW games this season because of injury. Brynn Teakle was delisted by the Kangaroos at the end of the 2025 season.
