Midwest Community Living Association donates six slings to help boost accessibility at Geraldton Aquarena

The Geraldton Aquarena has been made more accessible thanks to a donation from the Midwest Community Living Association of six slings. The slings are used to help those with mobility challenges to safely enter and exit the centre’s hydrotherapy pool. The association’s donation was raised through its Jack’s Shed operation, which has been a popular newspaper recycling hub since 1995 and operated by the MWCLA since 2023. City of Greater Geraldton mayor Jerry Clune thanked the organisation for their donation, which will benefit the community for many years to come. “Accessibility remains a top priority for the city and we are committed to establishing a community without barriers,” he said. “The current slings had reached their end of life so this donation will go a long way in helping people of all abilities access our hydrotherapy pool.” Funds raised through Jack’s Shed have gone back into the Aquarena for items including lane ropes, starting blocks and inflatables. “(The slings donation) enhances access to the hydrotherapy pool for people who rely on this vital facility for their health and wellbeing —including our customers who collect and bundle newspapers for recycling to raise funds that go back into supporting the community,” MWCLA programs and camps co-ordinator Jo Luxton said. “This contribution reflects our shared commitment to inclusion, opportunity and building a stronger, more connected Geraldton for everyone.” Businesses who would like their newspapers picked up and recycled can contact MWCLA on 9921 1505 or email enquiries@mwcla.org.au For more information about the new slings or any of the Aquarena’s accessibility equipment contact 9956 6906 or email aquarena@cgg.wa.gov.au
