Midwest Fibre Glass Products allegedly broken into by apprentice who stole two cars

Police say an in-house break-in at a Geraldton business saw a young man and an accomplice steal two business vehicles before abandoning them. Geraldton police were called to attend Midwest Fibreglass Products after their permanently closed business was broken into on Thursday morning. About 8.45am on July 30, police say they received a report that alleged an 18-year-old apprentice working for the business and an accomplice stole two vehicles. Officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said an 18-year-old man from Webberton and a 17-year-old boy from Woorree allegedly cut open a locked gate with a cordless grinder and opened a sliding door to enter the property. The alleged offenders stole two vehicles which were later abandoned and recovered by police. One of the vehicles was abandoned and recovered by police on Tamarisk Way near a river in Woorree. Sen Sgt Martin said the other abandoned vehicle was found by police on Eighth Street in Woorree. “The two offenders were near the scene at the time officers recovered the vehicle and were subsequently arrested,” he said. “Police were patrolling the area looking for the vehicles and came across them, I suspect police got a bit lucky.” Sen. Sgt Martin said the alleged victim — the employer of the apprentice— reported to the police the alleged offender was one of his staff members. Both teenagers were charged with two counts of stealing a motor vehicle and aggravated burglary and were released on bail until their court appearance on July 14.
