Mingenew Cup meeting held at the Geraldton Turf Club, with a few local horses enjoying wins

Perth raider Our Idyll smashed the field, winning by more than two lengths to claim the Mingenew Cup at Geraldton Turf Club on Thursday. Fellow city horse Soviet Spy came in a distant second in the 2100m sprint, which had a total prize pool of $20,000. Our Idyll won $11,600 by coming in first. Trained by Tiarnna Robertson, Our Idyll was ridden comfortably to the finish by one of the State’s best female jockeys, Natasha Faithfull. The Adam Durrant-trained Soviet Spy took $4000 as runner-up. Moonyoonooka horse Proxy trained by Garry Delane ran third, unable to catch the Perth competition, and took home $1800. In fourth place was Art Warrior based in Serpentine and local horse Honorfic trained by Peter Dally was fifth. Last in the mix was the Gordon Spowart-trained Safe To Makeup placing sixth while Julia Martin’s Galaxy Blaze ran last. The Race 6 RTG 70+ 1400m Handicap saw the Garry Delane-trained Minus Looks sneak into first place. Geraldton horse Admiral Husson trained by Kevin Backshall won the Race 4 RTG 58+ 1100m Handicap. The Mingenew Cup was the second last meeting for the 2021-22 season at the Geraldton Turf Club. The last race on the calendar will be a free entry event on Friday, April 29.
