It was a weekend of record-breaking in Mullewa, with rodeo organisers estimating they had their highest intake of spectators.

After the muster reported 271 competitors last week — the most entrants it had ever received — co-ordinator Jane Parker said she also thought ticket purchases swamped last year’s figure by 1000 people.

“We reckon we would have cracked 4000 people,” she said.

“It was a bloody huge crowd.

“Definitely the biggest we’ve ever had.”

Parker also acknowledged the perfect weather, the strong cohort of interstate and international competitors, and the lack of any major injury.

She said preliminary feedback from attendees had been one word and one word only: “Awesome”.

A total of $44,450 was paid out in rodeo prize money.
