NAIDOC Week 2025: Geraldton boasts a stacked line-up of activities to celebrate Strength, Vision & Legacy

This year marks the 50th year of NAIDOC Week, which will be celebrated from July 6-13. Geraldton will be abuzz with activities and functions for the event which this year explores the theme The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. With the week-long celebrations coinciding with the first week of the school holidays, there are plenty of activities to keep children and adults entertained. NAIDOC WEEK IN GERALDTON GERALDTON REGIONAL ABORIGINAL MEDICAL SERVICE NAIDOC opening concert (Sunday, July 6): To kick off the week, this free, family-friendly event is a celebration of music, culture, and community. Hosted by Lennel Papertalk, head to Stow Gardens on Sunday from 10am-3pm to enjoy live music, market stalls and snags. Cake cutting and flag raising (Monday, July 7): Join GRAMS for a free morning tea at 10am on Monday as they cut the 50th NAIDOC Week anniversary cake and raise the flags. Featuring special guests Greater Geraldton mayor Jerry Clune and Coloured Stone band members. Mayu’s Ball (Tuesday, July 8): On Tuesday at the QEII Centre, Lower Hall, from 6pm to 8pm GRAMS is hosting a ball filled with cultural entertainment and music to honour the rich heritage and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Registration is free for all. Children aged five to 11 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. NAIDOC big breakfast (Wednesday, July 9): Get ready to fill your bellies with delicious brekkie foods On Wednesday from 8.30-10.30am at the GRAMS courtyard. All are welcome. NAIDOC Awards dinner (Thursday, July 10): Gather at Batavia Hall to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of Geraldton community members. Tickets are free but you must reserve a seat. The event starts at 6pm and goes until late. Youth colour run (Friday, July 11): Put on your whitest whites and head down to Stow Gardens for GRAMS’ final NAIDOC Week activity — the colour run. On Friday from 10am-1pm there will be colour, live entertainment and exciting activities topped off with a barbecue lunch. CITY OF GREATER GERALDTON Poems by Nola Gregory: A powerful display of poems showcasing the words of Nola Gregory at the Geraldton Regional Library. Self-identity handprint paintings (Wednesday, July 9): From 1-2pm on Wednesday, participants will have the opportunity to create self-identity handprint paintings to discover more about their identity. Delivered by Bundiyarra Aboriginal Community Corporation. At Geraldton Youth Centre. Tote bag design (July 16): Head to the Geraldton Youth Centre from 1-2pm to paint a story on a tote bag about what Geraldton means to you. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE Free community event (Wednesday, July 9): Hosted by the Department of Justice, Desert Blue Connect, and Department of Communities, this free event at Edith Cowan Square from 11am-2pm will feature stalls, giveaways and activities. Lunch, tea and coffee will also be provided. MUSEUM OF GERALDTON Silence Listening Exhibit: A powerful truth-telling featuring newly commissioned work by Yamatji artist Charmaine Papertalk Green, British-Australian artist George Criddle, and the late Yamatji artist Brian McKinnon. The exhibit will be open daily from 9am-3pm. Runs until August 31.
