Nationals WA launches petition calling for State Government to take action to curb youth crime in Mullewa

The Nationals WA have launched a petition demanding the State Government take action to help stop youth crime in a Greater Geraldton town. A number of Mullewa residents have expressed concerns over the growing amount of crime in the area, with some suggesting it is as bad as its ever been. There have been an increased number of reports of break-ins, vehicle thefts and antisocial behaviour. Opposition Leader Shane Love said there had been a lack of input from the State Government and action was needed. “We have seen this type of crime erupt in regional communities from the Kimberley and spread to the south and now it is impacting the Mid West and Geraldton,” he said. “Continual ignorance of the issues must stop. “It undermines the trust and confidence of the community in the ability of law enforcement and governing bodies to ensure public safety but also perpetuates a cycle of criminal behaviour that can have long-term consequences for society.” Nationals WA Geraldton candidate Kirrilee Warr said the crime in Mullewa was impacting the community. “Creating significant challenges for residents, law enforcement, and local authorities, the impact of these criminal activities extends beyond mere statistics, affecting the safety, wellbeing, and quality of life for residents,” Ms Warr said. “The Nationals WA have launched a petition calling on the Cook Government to implement targeted programs and initiatives aimed at prevention, rehabilitation and support for at-risk youth, as well as enhancing law enforcement strategies to deter and apprehend perpetrators of crime.” WA Police says extra police have been sent to Mullewa and they were working with other stakeholders to tackle crime issues.
