NBL1 West Round 3: Geraldton Buccaneers look to continue their undefeated start to the season
The Geraldton Buccaneers continue their NBL1 West road trip this weekend as they face Willetton Tigers on Saturday night and Lakeside Lightning on Sunday.
Buccs coach Dayle Joseph said his side had no injury concerns ahead of the two games.
“They all got through Tuesday’s session unscathed. We have got a session on Thursday; if everyone gets through that, hopefully we get to travel at full strength,” he said.
While they have looked at some of the Tigers’ strengths, Joseph said their main focus in training was on executing their own game.
“Getting some of our plays down pat, everyone on the same page and understanding where our shots come from,” he said.
The Buccs come into the round with two wins, while their opponents are still looking for their first win of the season .
However, Joseph said his side was under no illusions about the Tigers’ quality.
“They haven’t been at full strength, those first two games, a little bit of unknown whether they’re at full strength coming up this week. So I don’t know whether a couple of their players have been injured or they’ve missed out due to COVID,” he said.
Lakeside also come into the weekend off the back of two losses and will be hoping to kickstart their season.
“We certainly won’t be taking either of those teams lightly,” Joseph said.
After this weekend, the Buccs will return to Geraldton for their first home game of the season to face the Cockburn Tigers on April 30.
“The goal is to win both games on the road and come home 4-0 with a five-game home stretch,” Joseph said.
“It would be a really good way to start the season. but obviously it’s a long year to get to that final goal that we want to achieve.
“So a lot of things need to be done between now and then.”
