Parents and citizens associations will be officially celebrated every July, a decision Waggrakine Primary School P&C president Paula Steenson says is a welcome reminder of how vital the associations are to schools.

The State Government has announced a new P&C Day will be held annually on July 26, to recognise the work P&C associations do.

Schools are encouraged to mark the occasion with special events for volunteers.

Ms Steenson, who has been Waggrakine Primary’s P&C president since 2013, said her association had funded shade sails, resurfaced a basketball court, ran breakfast programs, purchased library resources, bought book awards for students and more.

“Each year the school provides a wish list of things for us to fund, usually between $10,000 and $12,000,” Ms Steenson said.

“We’re always fundraising to get the school what they need.”
