No arrests related to licensed venues in Geraldton on New Year’s Eve

While there were chaotic scenes in some Perth hotspots on New Year’s Eve, Geraldton Police enjoyed a relatively quiet start to 2022.

Local police made no arrests in relation to any of the city’s licensed venues on New Year’s Eve as local revellers were well-behaved as they welcomed in the new year.

Mid West Gascoyne Police Superintendent Roger Beer said New Year’s Eve was always a busy night for his team, but this time around there were “no real issues”.

“(No arrests were made) directly related to licensed premises ... we had family violence incidents which we see every weekend,” he said.

“We don’t have a lot of problems with our licensed premises, most places have been pretty good.”

Supt Beer said it was pleasing there were no out-of-control incidents that his officers had to deal with on Friday night or Saturday morning.

“It’s been a challenging year with COVID and we were lucky in Geraldton to be able to get out and celebrate properly unlike in Perth, so yes, it was a good night. Everyone had a good time celebrating the new year,” he said.

Across the State, 90 arrests were made on New Year’s Eve.
