Northampton all but assured a top-two finish in Batavia Bowling League women’s pennants with a commanding win over Wonthella Maroon last Thursday.

Denison, Wonthella Gold and Geraldton Gold will be hoping for the other spot as the competition heads into the last five matches.

The Ewes extended their lead on the table by a point with the 4-0, 28-shot win over the struggling Maroon. The season looks all but over for Maroon, and for Geraldton Blue.

Denison beat Geraldton Gold, who went into the round placed third, by six shots to hold on to second.

Wonthella Gold claimed an important 3-1 (38-35) result to climb into third, in reach of the top two.

Denison champion Marie Eaton extended an incredible undefeated five-game run in the skipper’s role.

With another four wins in five games playing as third, she is top on the players’ table ahead of Northampton’s Karen Drage, who has seven wins and a draw in nine games.

Wonthella Gold’s Margaret Kupsch is top of the skippers’ table, with seven wins from 10 matches.

Just behind her is Northampton’s Pauline Forrester, who is undefeated in six matches as skipper with seven wins and a draw from 10 matches.

The race to the second-division finals has tightened, with four of last week’s top five suffering losses and just 51/2 points separating third-placed Wonthella Gold and Denison White in seventh. Denison Blue leapfrogged Geraldton Blue to go top with a solid 3-1 (45-28) home win.

Denison White lifted themselves off the bottom to within reach of the four with an all-point win against Wonthella Gold. Wonthella Maroon gained ground on fourth-placed Geraldton Gold with just one shot separating the two after the 42 gazetted ends.

Geraldton Red had a nailbiting 3-1 (44-43) over Northampton, who drop to fifth.
