Northampton product and former Port Adelaide ruck Brynn Teakle has been offered to compete for a spot on Collingwood’s rookie list. The reigning premier sent invitations out to Teakle, VFL captain Campbell Hustwaite and ex-St Kilda midfielder Jack Bytel to train for a spot on the Magpies’ rookie list. Teakle, who was delisted by Port in September, made his debut in round 14 of the 2022 season, just two weeks after being picked in the mid-season rookie. He suffered a broken collarbone in his first appearance, which put his future in the AFL up in the air. However, the 204cm ruckman managed to return to the side just seven rounds later against Richmond, recording 19 hit outs, and signed a one-year extension through the 2023 season. The 23-year-old appeared in four games for the team in the 2023 season, having a massive performance in his first game of the season against West Coast in round six when he recorded 34 hit outs, 14 disposals and slotted a behind. In his final game for Port this season, Teakle kicked the first goal of his AFL career during the round nine win against North Melbourne, but his season was limited by a foot injury which sidelined him during the middle of the year.
