Olivia Bidwell becomes first to 1000 runs in Geraldton women’s cricket competition
Wanderers all-rounder Olivia Bidwell made history in Women’s Young Motors Cricket on Sunday when her 23 runs took her to become the first player to reach 1000 runs in the competition.
The competition, in its fourth season, has helped develop several fine cricketers and Bidwell is among the top echelon.
The game at Mazzuchelli Oval was a mismatch as Wanderers easily beat Chapman Valley-Northampton who only had eight players plus a junior, although Wanderers supplied extra fielders.
Wanderers batted first and made 7-105, although five of their wickets were batters who retired to give others a go. The CVN bowlers however did well, with most economical.
Bidwell made 23 before she retired with her wonderful achievement to savour while Meg Spalding, a quality inclusion, also made 23 and Charlie Bidwell 18.
CVN’s reply was 7-13, which was in effect all out and a record low score. Despite that, CVN have heart. A few new players is all they need.
Kasey Maynard (2-0) had the best figures and there were also three run outs, including a direct hit from “Mum Bidwell”, Leanne.
The other game between Towns and Sportsmans was moved to Wonthella after the outfield at the Rec was mistakenly watered.
Towns batted first and anchored by Janelle Phillips (46 not out) made 4-75 with Jo Walker (2-11) again showing her skills.
Sportsmans almost ran the target down thanks to Belinda Burrows (26 not out), a vastly improved player, but finished at 9-72.
Ruth Vorster (3-11) was again among the wickets.
