Olivia Bidwell reclaims lead in striker race as Abrolhos forfeit, Rovers lose unbeaten record

The Geraldton Rovers have seen their unbeaten run in the Mid West Soccer Association come to an end at the hands of Abrolhos, allowing Olympic to return to their usual place at the top.

Rovers were coming off the bye having recorded four straight wins to start the season to be atop the ladder but Abrolhos stopped their run with a thrilling 3-2 victory.

The loss handed top spot to Olympic who thumped La Fiamma 6-1 who were playing their first game in more than a month after forfeiting the last two rounds.

Adan Richi and Kalan De Luca both scored doubles with Paul Johnson and David Newton rounding off the dominant victory.

Amateur League striker Kumbirai Dzoma scored his first for the season but it was otherwise an evening to forget for the Reds.

Olympic have a one-point lead over both Rovers and Abrolhos however Rovers do have a game in hand.

In the women’s league, Olivia Bidwell scored another hat-trick as La Fiamma eased passed Olympic 4-0.

It takes her tally up to 21 goals from seven games and the fifth occasion the star has scored three or more goals.

It moves her to the top of the goal-scoring charts as Selina Kiddle was not able to add to her tally of 20 goals with Abrolhos forfeiting against Chapman Athletic.

Marconi’s tough season continued as they were well beaten by the Rovers 5-1 to remain without a single point halfway through the season.

Hannah Hygren and Samantha Bentik both scored a brace with Rikki Papertalk adding the fifth as the Rovers jump Olympic into fourth on superior goal difference.

Bishal G C scored the only goal in the reserves matches as La Fiamma beat Olympic 1-0 with the top three now separated by just two points as Rovers forfeited to Abrolhos.
