More than 100 riders will travel from across WA and gather at Woorree Park this weekend for Geraldton Combined Equestrian Club’s annual three-day showjumping spectacular.

WA’s 2008 Olympic silver medallist Sonja Johnson, who is bringing a team of three horses all the way from her home in Albany, will be among the star attractions at this year’s event.

More than 1000 rounds will be ridden over heights reaching 1.40m and $20,000 in prizes and money will be up for grabs.

Club chairman Ross Newman said this had always been the biggest event on their calendar and 2017 would be no different.

“This weekend, we will see Woorree Park packed with trucks, floats, horses and people over three action-packed days,” he said.

“Spectators are encouraged to attend free of charge and witness some of the State’s best showjumpers in action. We have some amazing prizes on offer this year, thanks to a number of wonderful local sponsors.”

Mr Newman has been club chairman for 20 years and the showjumping event has been running since 1998.

The event will run from July 7 -9, with classes starting from 7.30am at Woorree Park on Dayana Drive.
