Olympic FC are double champions in Geraldton soccer after they wrapped up the league title with a hard-fought away win over Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma.

Kumbi Dzoma scored for Olympic as the game ended 2-1 on Tuesday evening, with Paul Johnson scoring the other goal and putting himself at the top of the scoring charts.

Olympic coach Frank DeLuca said there would be little chance for the team to celebrate the end of a tough season before moving on to the cup competition.

“We knew it (the UF La Fiamma game) was going to be a hard one,” DeLuca said.

“We scored the first goal and then they equalised.

“They had their chances, we had our chances and Johnno (Johnson) put one in from about 20 yards out.

“We’ve got a rest on the weekend and then it’s on to the knockout cup.”

The strike took Johnson’s total for the season to 11, ahead of Chapman Athletic’s Alessio Sala-Martinez and Abrolhos FC’s Rohan Mulcahy with 10 each, and Rovers’ Bishal G. C. with nine.

Michael O’Brien scored UF La Fiamma’s goal.

Chapman had taken the title race to the last day of the season, but their 3-1 win against Abrolhos wasn’t enough.

Louis Beat scored for Chapman in that game, and Sala-Martinez scored two.
