Opposition leader Shane Love welcomes Jurien Bay Marina funding after multi-year delays

The State Opposition is welcoming the Government’s funding injection for the Jurien Bay Marina, saying the community has waited a long time for it. The State Government has announced Jurien Bay will receive $17.5 million towards upgrades as part of a $165m investment in outdoor adventure tourism across WA as part of the WA Budget. The works will include extending the northern breakwater, improving the water quality at the marina, and increasing investment opportunities in the area. Opposition Leader Shane Love said Jurien Bay had been waiting years for a long-term solution to the smell caused by rotting seaweed and dead fish. “The Jurien Bay community has had to wait until the final Budget before the forthcoming State election to see a commitment to these engineering works when the engineering solution was agreed to in 2020,” he said. “At the time, the project was costed at $7.8m but four years on, that costing has blown out by a further $10m. “Since then, the transport minister has repeatedly told us the Federal Government would have to contribute funds, but it seems the miserable Albanese Government has refused, and the State Labor Government has had to stump up and take responsibility for its State-owned asset. “The delays have stymied the development in the marina precinct as no one would want to invest while the fish kills continued.”
