Outback Bloom Festival set for Mullewa’s biggest weekend of the year with bush walks, native medicine and art

Next weekend is the weekend for a rural getaway to Mullewa, jammed packed full of entertainment and events from Thursday through to Sunday including the annual Outback Bloom festival. Mullewa’s wildflower festival is back with a bang, running from Thursday, August 25 to Sunday, August 28. With the wildflowers blooming late this year, they will be newly opened up and ready for viewing. Outback Bloom event co-ordinator Holly Freeman said the festival celebrated Mullewa’s unique biodiversity and stunning fauna and flora. “Outback Bloom is one of Mullewa’s biggest events of the year. There will be experts talking about bush medicine and native plants used by First Nations people,” she said. Wendy Merry will have a bush tucker yarn, discussing the different ways Mullewa First Nations people would practise medicine in history. A photography workshop will be taught by Sophie Xiang to discover how to take the perfect wildflower shot on an iPhone. Ms Freeman said Father Robert Cross will present the story of Monsignor John Hawes and his life in the Mid West. Other workshops include paper flower tips and tricks from artist Carrissa Wu and a fashion show by local artist Helen Ansell and Fleece & Flax owner Julia Foulkes-Taylor.
