The Perth RedStars claimed the Mid West Regional Festival of Football regional cup in both the NPLWA men’s and women’s clashes on Saturday.

The annual Football West celebration brings games to regional cities, with this year being the third time — previously in 2017 and 2021 — it has come to the Mid West in the eighth edition of the festival. It was held in Albany last year.

A series of courses and activities were held during the week, with the main event being a double feature of NPL matches played at Wonthella Oval on Saturday night.

During the week leading up to the highlight games, school clinics, coaching sessions and referee courses ran across Geraldton.

In the NPL matches, top women’s side Perth RedStars took on Hyundai NTC, with the RedStars coming in as the reigning regional cup winners.

After a tight contest in the first half with the sides tied 1-1, the RedStars blew the game out in the second as they came away with a 7-1 victory, bringing home the regional cup again.

In the men’s, Perth RedStar took on Perth Glory, which again went in the Stars favour with a 1-0 victory.

It was the first time that the men’s RedStars featured in the regional cup, with the side coached by Geraldton-born Callum Salmon.

A dead-even game was taken by the RedStars in the 70th minute with a goal putting them up over Glory.
