Phillip Mark Taylor: Domestic violence accused remanded in custody after allegedly breaching protective bail

A man accused of a violent attack on his partner has been refused bail after he was allegedly repeatedly caught with the woman he was ordered to stay away from. Phillip Mark Taylor, 43, appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court via video link to Greenough Regional Prison on Monday to apply for bail. He is charged with three counts of breaching protective bail conditions, two counts of aggravated common assault, fraud, possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property and no authority to drive. He pleaded not guilty to the assault charges and has not entered pleas on the remaining charges. Police prosecutor Sen. Const Thomas Potts told the court that on Wednesday, May 22 about 6.30pm, Mr Taylor was at an address in Spalding with his partner and daughter when he accused his partner of being unfaithful. He said while she was lying in bed, Mr Taylor allegedly punched her in the head multiple times. Sen. Const Potts said when the woman tried to escape, Mr Taylor picked up an 80x80cm object and struck her body multiple times. Mr Taylor had previously received bail with protective conditions not to approach the alleged victim, but days later he was allegedly found hiding in a pantry cupboard next to her during a welfare check. He was granted bail a second time, on the condition he stayed in Mount Magnet away from the protected person. Mr Taylor was then allegedly found in Geraldton in company of the woman. In applying for bail, defence lawyer Paul Gazia said Mr Taylor’s brother’s funeral was being held in Moora and there would be cultural ramifications if he was not able to attend. Magistrate Kelly Thompson said attending the funeral was an exceptional circumstance to grant bail, but recalled previously warning Mr Taylor he would not receive bail if he was back in court for further alleged breaches.
