Police launch internal investigation into Geraldton incident

An internal investigation into the conduct of a Geraldton police officer is under way after footage of an officer was posted to social media yesterday.

A Facebook user posted the footage, believed to be taken from a Snapchat video, which allegedly shows a Geraldton police officer putting his arms out and another person falling to the ground, followed by screaming from bystanders.

The footage, which lasts about 10 seconds, has 20,000 views and 127 shares.

A WA Police spokesperson said an internal investigation was under way.

“Mid West-Gascoyne District Office were made aware mid-morning today of a short video clip filmed in the early hours of Sunday morning 6 August 2017 at the front of the Vibe Nightclub, Lester Avenue, Geraldton” they said.

“An internal investigation has commenced into this clip and the conduct of the officer to determine if his actions were justified.

“The Internal Affairs Unit and the Corruption and Crime Commission have oversight of this investigation, as with all internal investigations.”
