Police have named two drivers killed in a tragic head-on crash that claimed the lives of three people near Dongara on Wednesday.

They were Vicki Peovitis, 49, of Dianella, and Eoin Malcolm McEachern, 72, of Geraldton.

Mr McEachern’s 41-year-old wife, who has not yet been named, was rushed to Geraldton Hospital where she died later that day.

The couple’s four-year-old son suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to Princess Margaret Hospital.

A PMH spokeswoman said the boy remained in a critical condition today.

Ms Peovitis’ daughter Natalie Bamaci also suffered serious injuries and was flown to Royal Perth Hospital.

A RPH spokeswoman said Ms Bamaci was in a stable condition in the state trauma unit today.

The crash happened shortly before 12.15pm when a white 2012 Toyota Hilux being driven by Mr McEachern veered into the path of a gold 2003 Toyota Landcruiser Prado being driven by Ms Peovitis, about 10km north of Dongara at Bonniefield.

Major Crash Unit are investigating the cause of the accident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Potter said police were investigating witness accounts suggesting a tyre blowout on the Hilux caused the collision.

Det Snr Sgt Potter thanked passers-by who stopped to help.

“A number of people stopped very soon after the crash itself, and we also know people came across it and did help – a lot of local people did,” he said.

“We’re slowly going through those people, trying to offer them assistance and some counselling because it was obviously a very tragic thing for them to see.”

Police are urging anyone who was driving in the area around the time of the crash to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
