Rangeway assault: Police release composite image and description after alleged attack on teen in Geraldton

Police have released a composite image and a more complete description of the man they say sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in the early hours of Saturday morning in Geraldton. They allege she was grabbed and assaulted in bushland on Blencowe Road, Rangeway, at 2am. First class detective constable David Costello said they were seeking a person of interest. “The offender was dark skinned, he was about 170cm tall he had a large nose and moustache,” Detective Costello said. “Clothing description was a black top with a light coloured hoodie underneath. “It’s been suggested that it was an Adidas top.” Detective Costello said anyone who had been assaulted or even just approached by the man needed to “be brave”, come forward and speak to police. “I want to hear from people, particularly who this may have happened to before but they were too frightened or too overwhelmed to report it,” he said. “They are more than welcome to come forward because it’s not too late. “We want to hear from them so we can commence an investigation into their incident.” Geraldton detectives have six officers working on a multiple leads about a weekend sexual assault in Rangeway. Acting Det. Sgt Tom Grieve asked the community to continue reporting any slight information they had that might help them find the man. He said the girl had been walking north along Blencowe Road, crossed Utakarra Road, and continued along a dark section of Blencowe Road beside bushland when the attacker grabbed her. Acting Sgt Tom Grieve said the victim was not involved in any sinister activity at the time. “It was just typical teenage behaviour, she just snuck out of her house to meet a friend,” he said.
