A male is currently assisting police with the investigation.

Firefighters extinguished the house fire at Aaron Close in the Geraldton suburb of Karloo, with police confirming the fire is being treated as suspicious.

Authorities received reports of smoke just after 7am and by 7.18am the single story house was engulfed in flames, a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said.

The fire was contained by 7.34am and extinguished at 8.02am.

The spokeswoman said a number of residents called emergency services on triple zero, with some believing there were people inside the property.

“Crews from Geraldton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Geraldton Fire and Rescue Service attended.

“At this stage the cause is undetermined.”
