Politics whizz Randall Starling to represent Geraldton in YMCA WA 27th annual Youth Parliament

A young local with a passion for bringing regional issues into the spotlight has been selected to represent Geraldton in the 27th annual WA Youth Parliament next month. Randall Starling is one of a group of 15 to 25-year-olds who will be taking part in the program, which gives youth the opportunity to experience first-hand WA’s parliamentary process, express their views and propose solutions to problems affecting their communities. The 20-year-old will work with his fellow committee members to craft a bill in response to an area of need within the science and innovation space. The proposed legislation will then be put up for debate in the Legislative Assembly in Parliament, with participants also given the chance to make a speech about their electorate. With a keen interest in politics, Mr Starling was also member of the 2019 Youth Parliament — an experience he said he’ll “never want to forget”. He said he was looking forward to working alongside like-minded young people and discussing the issues that matter most to them. “It is good to hear what other young people have to say about the issues facing our generation and what they see as solutions to those problems whilst having constructive discussions, and having our voices heard by the people in positions of power and influence,” he said. Mr Starling hopes to raise awareness about Geraldton’s cost of living crisis, problems with youth crime and concerns around power reliability. He has recently started work at a local bank, but hopes to pursue a career in politics in the future.
