Potato king Tony Galati reveals Geraldton will ‘probably’ see Spudshed mid-2024

Potato king Tony Galati has revealed Geraldton will likely be the next regional WA destination to see a Spudshed open. Mr Galati spoke about his plans for Geraldton and the current potato shortage during an interview with Hit Network’s breakfast radio show this week. Regional Spudshed stores are already open in Bunbury and Northam. When asked where the next place in regional WA would be to expect a Spudshed, Mr Galati revealed it could very well be Geraldton. “Probably Geraldton,” he said. He said Geraldton could likely expect to see Spudshed open its door “in mid-2024”. Mr Galati said WA didn’t need to panic about potatoes running out. “We’ve got plenty of spuds; as you can see in our Spudsheds we’ve been selling potatoes 4kg for two bucks,” he said. Mr Galati said due to a surplus he would be sending potatoes to the east coast to help them recoup their stock. “There’s definitely a shortage in the freezer section, but as for fresh potatoes in WA, we’ve got no problem at all,” he said. “We’ve got an oversupply, so if they want them, they’re there.” In 2021, Mr Galati told The West Australian he wanted to open four regional WA stores within two years, including Karratha, Albany, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton, but the move hinged upon a more stable economy and enough workers.
