Residents of Geraldton and surrounds may notice smoke during a prescribed burn in Utakarra this weekend.

The City of Greater Geraldton has advised Rovers Football Club will conduct a prescribed burn in bushland west of Stansfield Road, and south of Ross Ariti Road, on Saturday.

If weather conditions are favourable, the controlled burn will start about 9am.

If weather conditions are not favourable, the burn will be postponed until further notice.

Members of the Waggrakine and Moonyoonooka volunteer bush fire brigades will help monitor the burn and extinguish the fire by the end of the day.

Smoke may affect the surrounding areas and people with respiratory conditions or who are affected by smoke are advised to contact their doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.

The City of Greater Geraldton and DFES carries out prescribed burns to help protect lives and property by reducing the build-up of flammable fuel loads.
