Kara Lamb’s winning Middle Secondary Poetry entry in the Geraldton Regional Library’s 2016 Randolph Stow Young Writers’ Awards. Kara represents Strathalbyn Christian College.

One chance and you shall fail,

Two chances and you shall prevail.

In amongst the roses thorns,

Your destiny will take true form.

3,000 steps to the west,

60 more to dragons nest.

Collect the egg of solid gold,

Deliver to the seer foretold.

Darkness creeps across the land,

Now controlled by evils hand.

Children weep and mothers pray,

That deaths cold hand will pass that day.

And lo' behold the light on high,

So pure and good that darkness hide.

Warriors descend on wings of white,

Your journeys troubles end tonight.

Three chances and your end draws near,

The demons scream but no soul doth hear.

Peace to kingdom come returns

And leaves to the rot of demon ... burn.
