Proposal to revitalise Spalding’s AMC Park and Mitchell Street Community Centre set for community feedback

The community is invited to have their say on a draft concept plan to revitalise AMC Park and Mitchell Street Community Centre in Spalding. The plan is set to be presented to the community at a consultation session on March 19. It includes a new playground, a bush tucker garden, the redevelopment of the Mitchell Street Community Centre, a cultural meeting space, shaded areas and more parking spaces. The Department of Communities has provided $3 million for the project and construction will begin once the draft plan has been finalised. The proposal is part of a $10m State Government commitment to revitalise Spalding announced last year. According to City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn, the draft plan developed by local community members will change the look and feel of the area located in the heart of the suburb. “The year six Bluff Point Primary School students and the Spalding Urban Renewal Team made up of local residents, service providers and business operators have worked closely with landscape architects to develop the plan,” the mayor said. “Together, they have done a fantastic job of turning the high-level recommendations for the area in the Spalding precinct plan into a detailed draft plan ready for feedback from the community.” The community is invited to come down to the Mitchell Street Community Centre between 9am and 11am on Saturday, March 19 to review the plans and provide feedback.
