Pumas end Warriors’ reign

Geraldton Guardian

Pumas have ended a remarkable period of dominance by Chapman Valley in the Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association men’s division one competition.

Pumas pulled off an upset in the 2017/18 grand final at Activewest Stadium last night, to win the season decider by eight points, 70-62.

The win ended an eight-year run of grand final victories by the Warriors, which included wins over Pumas in 2016/17 and 2015/16.

In a tightly-contested game, the Warriors held a two-point lead in the first half, but Pumas kept up the pressure to grab victory from their arch-nemesis.

Pumas’ Oliver Haste, who led the scoring for his team with 24 points, was named most valuable player in the grand final.

Full match review, including season award winners and reaction from the coaches, in Tuesday’s print edition.
