Pumas pounce to lead ladder in top junior boys’ & girls’ basketball divisions

Pumas had wins in the boys’ and girls’ top divisions in Geraldton junior basketball over the weekend.

Pumas beat Trades 29-21 in the girls’ under-18 division one to go top ahead of their opponents.

Chapman Valley also leapfrogged their opponents on the night, beating Olympians 27-19 to go above them on the table in the other game. In the boys’ comp, Pumas beat Chapman Valley 44-27 to stay top. Olympians defeated Stateside 49-36 in the other game.

In the competition’s popular lower divisions, Pumas Blue and Stateside Black entertained the crowd in their girls’ under-10s match on Saturday.

Roy Verbe was among the players who did well for Hawks Yellow in the boys’ under-12s, but in the end Pumas proved too strong for his side, winning 36-27. First are due to play second tonight in men’s top-level match ups, with Olympians taking on Pumas in division one.

Third are also set to play fourth as Stateside play Chapman Valley.

Hawks play Trades in the other game.

In the women’s top division, top side Trades were due to play second-placed Stateside last night. Chapman Valley were due to play Pumas.

There were two tight games in the women’s division one last Monday. Trades edged past Chapman Valley 45-43 to stay top of the ladder and Pumas defeated Stateside 60-57.

Trades play Stateside next Monday and Pumas play Chapman Valley. In the men’s division one, first played second as Olympians beat Chapman Valley 86-70 on Wednesday to stay top of the table. Stateside beat Trades 75-71.

Hawks play Trades next Tuesday.
