Radio host Kymba Cahill recounts scene of Indian Ocean Drive fatal as fundraiser launched to repatriate bodies

A Perth radio host among the first at the scene of a horrific head-on collision on Indian Ocean Drive that killed two Indonesian nationals has broken down recounting the traumatic experience on air. Meanwhile, a friend of the two Indonesian women, Rosanty and Fina, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with costs of repatriating their bodies home. The women, aged 23 and 31, were critically injured and died at the scene of a head-on collision on Indian Ocean Drive, north of Perth, on Saturday, October 19. About 5pm, a white Honda Accord the Indonesian women were in and a silver Jeep, with five occupants including a young boy, collided in Neergabby, about 80km north of Perth. The five people inside the Jeep received non-life-threatening injuries. Mix94.5 breakfast co-host Kymba Cahill revealed on air on Wednesday that she was one of the first to come across the shocking scene on her way home to Perth from Lancelin. “You don’t know what you’ll do in these situations. I thought that I would maybe freeze and not do anything but just coming across the crash, it was so confronting, I jumped out of the car and ran over to help,” she said. “It was a head-on collision at 100km/h. I’m not going to explain what that looks like, but it was horrific.” Cahill said she waited with the survivors in the Jeep, including a mother and her brave five-year-old son Henry, who she kept distracted as emergency services arrived. “I didn’t want him to realise the trauma of what was taking place. I tried to get him to talk about his dog and his drawing and his nan and pop and things like that, ‘cause his mum was injured and couldn’t see him either,” she said. The ordeal has left the radio presenter traumatised, telling listeners she would be seeking help for her mental health. “Truly, it was horror... the images that I saw have been running through my head, like a video, like a movie — just seeing the same images rolling through since Saturday,” she said. “The two women in the other car were killed and they have family, they have friends and now those people are dealing with the shocking grief of losing someone that they loved.” Rizki Thanan, a friend of Rosanty and Fina, has organised a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of repatriating their bodies to their home country. More than $36,000 has been donated and the fundraiser has since been closed to new donations. It has been reported that Rosanty and Fina had only been living in Australia for a couple of years and were working at a carrot farm in Lancelin. On Monday, Ms Thanan posted to the fundraiser, expressing her appreciation for the contributions and updated donators. “Hi everyone, thank you for your kindness for our beloved friends. I want to give you guys the update as soon as possible but I can’t because today we are going to the hospital for the body identification process from the Perth police,” the update said. “We are still waiting for the results of the police investigation process before we can move on to the next stage, which is preparing to send the body to Indonesia.”
