The Rotary Club of Greater Geraldton’s 31st annual radio auction saw $36,000 raised for charity thanks to an influx of phone bids on Sunday. The Rotary clubs of Geraldton and Geraldton-Greenough merged on July 1 to form the Rotary Club of Greater Geraldton, resulting in more volunteers than ever running a smooth auction day. The Triple M radio on-air team of Jason McCarthy, Todd Gray, Peter Fiorenza, Glenn Barndon and Grant Woodham spent the day commentating while a “record number” of volunteers joined the phone rooms to take bids. The Rotary Club of Greater Geraldton thanked everyone who participated in the club’s biggest yearly fundraiser. “Our auction items were plentiful and interesting, so many out of the square temptations,” they said. “Every year we are so grateful for the wonderful people who provide us with their pledges and to those who dig so deep on the day to make the final tally come to fruition.” The winning bidders have until Saturday to visit the Bendigo Bank and make a deposit. Some of the major items up for grabs included holiday packages in Broome, Kalbarri, the Murchison and Shark Bay, cruises to the Abrolhos and Rottnest Island plus numerous other accommodation experiences.
