Rovers export Liam Ryan was back in flying form while Jaeger O’Meara came in clutch with two late goals

Premiership hero and Rovers export Liam Ryan was back in flying form as the Eagles stunned the Demons 16.9 (105) to 10.10 (70) on Sunday. After returning from injury, Ryan had a slow start in his first three games but looked back to his old form for Waalitj Marawar (West Coast) on Sunday during the 35-point win over Narrm (Melbourne). Ryan looked a chance to take another mark of the year as he went on the back of Max Gawn and nearly hauled in the ball with one hand. Incidentally, Gawn was Ryan’s ladder when he won mark of the year in 2019. The former Rover turned on the jets as he ran through the ground and sent the ball deep into Eagles territory, showing off the speed that has been missing this season. Fellow Mid West product Jamie Cripps had one of his best performances of the season, racking up 22 disposals, 15 kicks, seven marks, four tackles and two goal assists, and kicked 1.3. Another former Rover who was on the ground, defender Judd McVee, was playing in WA for just the second time in his young AFL career. McVee had a tough task in a Demons back line that was hurt, with Jake Lever going down early, as he was matched up on key forward Jake Waterman late in the first half. Over at Marvel Stadium, Walyalup (Fremantle) got up over Euro-Yroke (St Kilda) in a 9.18 (72) to 8.7 (55) win. Dongara’s Jaeger O’Meara helped seal the win late as he clocked one of his better games since joining the Dockers. With the game still up for grabs between the two sides, O’Meara came in clutch with two fourth-quarter goals that helped seal the win, having previously failed to hit the scoreboard this season. O’Meara had 16 disposals, six marks, five tackles, three clearances, and kicked 2.1. On Friday night there was another clash of Mid West talent, with Sydney beating Carlton 17.15 (117) to 9.11 (65) at the SCG. The Blues got the jump early on the Swans, taking an early 26-point lead in the opening term, but Sydney rallied quickly and took over the game. Despite walking away with the win, it was the first time this season Coorow-Latham’s Logan McDonald was kept goalless as he finished the game with two behinds and no majors. Coming into the game in red-hot form, Patrick Cripps had a quieter night with 24 disposals, four marks, four tackles and five clearances with a behind kicked. After being subbed in during the third, Chapman Valley’s Jack Carroll had nine disposals, three marks, three tackles, three clearances and a goal assist. West Coast will be known as Waalitj Marawar during Doug Nicholls round, while Melbourne will be known as Naarm, Fremantle as Walyalup, and St Kilda as Euro-Yroke.
