Geraldton Rovers have proven they are the real deal after claiming victory in a top-of-the-table clash in the Mid West Soccer Association. While it looked like Olympic might have had Rovers’ number to start the game with David Newton scoring in the first minute of play, the top team got back into dominant form to win the game. Rovers’ Ben Rollett bagged a hat-trick in the win, scoring three straight after the team gave up the first-minute goal. While in the other league game, La Fiamma managed to come away with another win while Chapman Athletic looked close to grabbing their first of the season. An early penalty goal from Zeke Forrester gave Chapman Athletic the lead but La Fiamma were able to respond only three minutes later with a goal of their own. In the back-and-forth game that looked like it could go either way, a late Kumbirai Dzoma goal for La Fiamma put them in the lead and sealed the win. In the reserves, the Rovers managed to get up over Olympic in a 2-1 clash, while La Fiamma ran up the score against Chapman Athletic in the 5-2 win. The women’s competition only had one game go ahead due to Rovers forfeiting against La Fiamma, and Marconi forfeiting against Chapman Athletic. In the game that went ahead, Abrolhos took on Olympic and it was all Abrolhos ball in the 4-1 clash. While the game got off to a slow start, Abrolhos managed to get two consecutive scores off the boots of Rachel Forrest and Ava Gould. Olympic managed to respond with a goal of their own thanks to Jana Van Staden but then once again it was Forrest and Gould who went back-to-back with goals to seal the win.
